Goin’ on a Bear/Rainbow Hunt

Our Manager, Carri, is extremely talented at creating lovely window displays.  Since she had her sweet baby in the fall, everyone who has walked past our store has recognized her absence.  Windows are not my favorite thing to do nor am I very good at them.  We still had winter things in our windows at the beginning of March because, of course, I had been procrastinating dealing with them.

Connected needed to close a few weeks ago to minimize the spread of the virus.  In my nightly reading of the news, I came across the world-wide Bear Hunt and Rainbow Hunt.  I don’t really *need* Fair Trade in my windows during these many weeks that we are closed, so these fun hunts seemed like something I could manage… with the help of a few friends.

We have two windows for displays so I decided we could go all out for the hunting.  We’ve big and little bears in one window with some flowers strewn about from Spring last year that Carri had made beautifully with tissue paper.  (If this full window display were for a grade, I would hope for a pass/fail situation because a letter grade would not be great.)  It has been delightful to hear little ones squeal from the sidewalk when they see the bears.  : )

The rainbow window required a little more thought… there are many ways one could go about fashioning a rainbow!  After a quick look at Pinterest, I recognized that I didn’t want to spend a lot of time on this gig and I should never look at Pinterest again in relationship to rainbows.  I messaged some friends from Bethany College and asked them if their kids would be willing to “give me a hand”.  Then I messaged some friends from Marquette, the town just eight miles from Lindsborg in which I get to serve as the part-time ELCA minister at Elim Lutheran Church.  I asked friends from Marquette if their grand/kids could also lend me a hand.  One of my new friends from Marquette is the director of the Marquette Learning Center so she had their kids jump into the fun as well.

In the end, we have a window for the Rainbow Hunt as well. : )  I’m grateful for all of the many hands that granted us our rainbow. May good cheer come in many forms for us all in these days of physical distancing.

w/great appreciation for the Smoky Valley – Amy Kay
